The Loch Leven Hotel in North Ballachulish sits at the foot of mighty Glencoe. This historic ferry Inn dates back to the time of Bonnie Prince Charlie and has a relaxed atmosphere with beautiful loch-side setting and dramatic views over the gardens to the mountains. Established in the 17th Century as a coaching inn and ferry stop for the Ballachulish Ferry (when this was merely a small row boat), the Loch Leven Hotel has been modernised and upgraded to its current high standard.

All twelve of the comfortable en-suite bedrooms are individually decorated and furnished, and provide a cosy, relaxing space for you to unwind in. 

Wi-Fi Wireless Internet (please note that due to the nature of the building with its thick stone walls, there may be some areas within the hotel that have no internet coverage.)

Accessible & Dog Friendly Rooms
The accessible room is a Superior Double room located on the ground floor and has an accesible shower as well as grab rails in the bathroom. This room also enjoys beautiful views over Loch Leven and has its own private terrace.

Most of the bedrooms are also dog friendly, please check availability before arrival as we do keep some rooms dog-free for guests with allergies. Small dog supplement will apply.

Loch View Restaurant

The stylish Loch View Restaurant at The Loch Leven Hotel offers guests a slightly more formal option for dining whilst still enjoying the wonderful panoramic views over Loch Leven. In the restaurant each evening, we serve the best local seasonal produce, carefully prepared and executed with flair. Dishes on the menu might include local seafood such as scallops or langoustines and local meats & game such as Argyll lamb or estate venison.

Lunch is served from 12 noon until 3.00PM and dinner is served from 6.00PM until 9.00PM.

Why not enjoy your bar meal or drink al-fresco on our loch view sundeck? Perched above the hotel's mature and vibrant gardens and overlooking the loch, relax and watch as yachts sail by & herons dip and dive in the loch.

In our peaceful Residents’ Lounge guests can enjoy the peace and quiet music while sitting and reading a book or check up on their e mails. The Residents’ Lounge can also be booked for private events such as weddings, private lunches, dinner parties and meetings.

Loch Leven Bar & Lounge

If you're looking for somewhere to have a tasty bar meal in laid back surroundings, then look no further than the public bar & lounge at The Loch Leven Hotel. The bar itself dates back to the 1700s and is a popular and lively "local" where there will always be a friendly face to welcome you.

Our well-stocked bars serve a wide selection of draught and bottled beers and feature over 75 Malt Whiskies - some of which are quite rare! Relax and enjoy the craic with staff and locals alike and cosy up by the open fire on colder days.

Children of all ages as well as well behaving dogs are welcome in the family room and games room where you can also find a television and a pool table.

Directions to Loch Leven Hotel in North Ballachulish near Onich

Directions by Car

The Loch Leven Hotel is just off the A82, the main route north from Edinburgh/Glasgow to Fort William. The hotel is located on the lochside in the village of North Ballachulish.

If travelling from the south (from Glencoe direction), take the first right turn immediately after Ballachulish Bridge.

You will see signposts at the road end for the hotel. If travelling from the north (from Fort William direction), take the last left turn immediately before Ballachulish Bridge. Again the hotel is well signposted at the road end.

By Public Transport

The closest railway station to the Hotel is Fort William, located 14 miles away.

By Bus/Coach

You can travel from any town or city in Scotland to the Ballachulish Area. Visit the citylink website www.citylink.co.uk for details on routes, timetables and fares. There is a bus stop at North Ballachulish.

There is also a local bus service which operates between the local villages and towns. 

Ferry Travel

The Loch Leven Hotel is just 45 minutes drive from the harbour town of Oban, the main gateway to Scotland's Hebridean Islands such as Mull, Iona, Tiree & Uist. You can also travel from Mallaig onto the Isle of Skye. Visit Caledonian MacBrayne's website for more information.

In the area, there a 4 castles of note; Inveraray Castle, Inverlochy Castle, Stalker Castle (Appin) and Castle Tioram (Ardnamurchan). Stalker Castle is just a 10 minute drive away down the Oban Road and there is a wonderful cafe and gift stop with panoramic views – ideal for a coffee stop.

For those looking to brush up on local clan history, a visit to the Glencoe Folk Museum in Glencoe Village is an enlightening experience! The authentic crafting thatched cottage is very pretty too.
