Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city, on the banks of the River Clyde. There is no shortage of things to see and do during the day. Glasgow has more parks per head of population than anywhere else in the UK. All museums in Glasgow are free to see such as the Riverside Transport Museum (voted top European Museum in 2013), Kelvingrove Art Gallery and the Burrell Collection. For families there is the hands on Science Centre & the Scottish Football Museum. But Glasgow is just a great place to wander round its centre with almost 1800 cafes and restaurants, with some of the best shopping in the UK outside London with over 1500 shops to choose from! The Art Nouveau magic of the city’s most famous son, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, can be seen across the skyline, including at the iconic Glasgow School of Art .

Glasgow is the “in-place” for a night out, whether it be dining in some of the UK’s best restaurants, seeing a show or a concert, including the SSE Hydro – ranked as one of the top 5 arenas in the world. There are over 100 music events taking place across the city each and every week. You can literally eat and drink your way around the world here. Glasgow city centre is quite compact so is easy to get round from the Merchant City to Nelson Mandela Square. Finnieston to George Square.

Things to See & Do surrounding Glasgow

 

Glasgow is not just a city. Surrounding Glasgow is superb scenery with wonderful walks and drives to Ayrshire in the south to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs to the North. Eastwards is the coast and there are boats heading “Doon the Watter” to Dunoon and the Inner Hebridean Islands. For the golfer there are dozens of courses to choose from, some like Troon and Gleneagles are only an hours’ drive away from the city centre. Other things to see and do in the area are whisky distilleries, castles, mountains and miles of coastline to explore.
